Description
The ignition system on a potato gun (or potato cannon, potato launcher, spud gun etc...) is usually the hardest part to sort out so we've put together a kit to make it easy. Installation is as simple as drilling a couple of holes in the combustion chamber then screwing this to it. The continuous spark from the igniter module is a lot nicer to use than the 'clack clack' you get from a pushbutton piezo igniter.
It's best installed on a PVC potato gun so the electrodes are insulated. It could be installed on a steel one but you'll need to find a way to insulate the electrodes from the chamber so it doesn't short out the spark.
The electrodes are the right length for a 100mm diameter combustion chamber. For smaller pipes just cut the brass rod shorter so the electrodes meet in the middle of the pipe for the best burn.
WHAT YOU GET

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Unscrew the button from the ignition module and put the threaded part through the hole in the white PVC housing. Screw the button back on.
2. Hold the PVC housing against your combustion chamber about half way along and mark the screw holes with a marker pen.
3. Drill two 5.5mm holes where you made the marks.
4. Put the washers on the electrode screws.
5. Loosely screw the PVC housing to the combustion chamber.
6. Line up the wires and cut off the excess, strip 5mm insulation and twist the bare wires tight.
7. Put the bare wires under the washers then do the screws up tight while holding the wire in place.
9. If you don't want to get a shock put insulation tape over the screw heads.
10. Adjust the gap between the tips of the electrodes to about 10mm get a strong spark when the button is pushed.
11. Install an AA battery and test for a consistent spark.
ABOUT POTATO GUNS
Despite what a lot of people think potato guns are NOT illegal in New Zealand but you do need a firearms license to own and use one (a bit of common sense helps too). This applies to combustion type potato guns, i.e. the sort that use deodorant, hairspray or similar gas fuel. Because they make an explosion (like the gunpowder in an ammunition round) to propel the projectile they are technically classed as a firearm.
