Description

WARNING - This is a high voltage device. Caution is required when using to avoid receiving an electric shock!

This is a battery powered high voltage pulse igniter (spark generator) with a minimum output of 30,000 volts. The output generates a strong hot spark making it ideal for a potato gun ignition system.

The spark can jump a gap up to 10mm but for a reliable hot spark, the optimum electrode gap is 6mm.

ACCESSORIES NOT INCLUDED - You'll need to get batteries, battery holder, switch, and makes some electrodes. It will work off 2 x AAA or 2 x AA batteries in series to make 3 volts DC for the input side. Batteries smaller than AAA don't have enough juice to make it work.

ADVANTAGES OVER PUSHBUTTON PIEZO
Higher output voltage generates a hotter spark
Relatively quiet compared to piezo igniters
Continuous spark output while the button is pressed

SPECIFICATIONS
Output voltage 30kV AC
Input 3V DC @ 700mA
Recommended electrode gap 6mm
Maximum electrode gap 10mm
Intermittent duty cycle
Input and output leads are 250mm long
Battery powered 3VDC (2 x AA not supplied)
Dimensions 79L x 31W x 32H mm

CONNECTIONS
INPUT 3V DC positive to red wire, negative to black wire
OUTPUT 30kV AC thick black wire is 'hot', blue wire is GND (do not connect to input!)

WARNING - RESIDUAL VOLTAGE
When the unit is switched off there can still be voltage on the output. To discharge it short out the output terminals then they will be safe to touch.

ABOUT POTATO GUNS
Despite what a lot of people think potato guns are NOT illegal in New Zealand but you do need a firearms license to own and use one (a bit of common sense helps too). This applies to combustion type potato guns, i.e. the sort that uses deodorant, hairspray, or similar gas fuel. Because they make an explosion (like the gunpowder in an ammunition round) to propel the projectile they are technically classed as a firearm.
