This fishing line launcher (also known as a Spud Gun) has been fabricated from high-pressure PVC pipe. After loading a potato then your fishing line in the barrel the combustion chamber is fuelled with deodorant or similar propellant. The end cap is screwed on and the propellant is ignited with the pushbutton ignition. The rapid burning of the fuel inside produces high pressure that forces the potato (and so the fishing line) out at high velocity past the waves.

To make this device using stock parts from the plumbing shop (using Class D pressure rated fittings) would cost you in the order of $250. Add to that the expense of buying minimum lengths of pipe, specialist tools and other materials etc. WARNING- Do not attempt to construct one of these with DWV (Drain Waste Vent) pipe, it will explode and a trip to the hospital might cost you more that what you saved buying the cheaper pipe.

This device is not a toy and so should be treated as such. It has been designed to be as safe as possible using high-pressure PVC and I have fired mine hundreds of times without incident but please read the disclaimer.

If you can make this for $100 we'd love to hear from you! We may be interested in buying them for our customers. For safety, it would need to be made from the same spec high-pressure PVC pipe with proper end caps etc. Get in touch if you to look into it further. Grant at Testntools.
